History

The historic property that served as Rectory, Shelter and Posthouse more than 400 years ago today is a prestigious Three Star Superior Hotel, a place where yesterday and tomorrow become today. New Hotel Owner Werner Flunger and his dedicated Team will cater to your every need, ensuring a vacation that will exceed your expectations.

  • Deeply rooted in tradition and dating back to the 15th century, the Posthotel is one of the oldest surviving buildings at the heart of Strengen.
  • In the 17th and 18th century, the historic property served as Rectory, Shelter and Posthouse.
  • By the late 18th century, the Haueis family became the registered owner of the hotel. An Inn to accommodate guests was first opened to the public in 1964. A bowling alley was added to keep guests occupied.
  • In 1999 numerous major improvements were made to the Inn. All the rooms were updated and the modest Inn became a Hotel.
  • In the year 2005 another wing was added, and the bowling alley was rebuilt to accommodate guests.
  • In 2009, Engl family leased the Hotel.
  • In 2014, the Hotel was sold to Werner Flunger, Deputy Mayor of St. Anton, who leased the “Gasthaus zur Post“ Restaurant to former owner and innkeeper Edi Haueis.

This authentic and inviting 500-year-old property has been thoughtfully restored by its owners and innkeepers to ensure that it retains all the charm and ambiance of a bygone era. Guests are given the opportunity to enjoy a glimpse back in time while still experiencing all the comforts and conveniences of the present.
